Radial Pulse Wave Therapy, also known as Radial Shockwave Therapy, is an FDA-cleared technology proven to increase the rate of healing for soft tissue tendinopathy or degeneration of tendons. It is an advanced, non-invasive, and highly effective treatment method that increases blood circulation and accelerates the healing process allowing the damaged tissue to gradually regenerate.
- Plantar fasciitis/fasciopathy
- Achilles tendinopathy/tendinitis
- Partial tendon tears
- Chronic heel pain
- Metatarsalgia
- Morton's neuroma
- Sesamoiditis
- Stress fractures
- Tibialis posterior tendinopathy
- Peroneal tendinopathy
- Trigger points in foot muscles
- Athletic overuse injuries
- Recalcitrant tendinopathies
- Non-healing soft tissue injuries
- Chronic wounds or ulcers
- Myofascial pain syndrome
When you have an area of chronic pain or injury, your body no longer recognizes the area as injured and no longer attempts to heal the injury. With Radial Pulse Wave Therapy, ballistic sound waves are transmitted through the skin and penetrate deep into the injured tissue or tendon, causing areas of microtrauma that restart the inflammatory cascade. Once this occurs, the body’s natural healing response is reactivated. In addition, the energy delivered through the ballistic sound waves causes the cells in the injured soft tissue to release specific biochemicals that intensify the body’s natural healing process and generate new, microscopic blood vessels that further accelerate healing.
Radial Pulse Wave Therapy has been studied for over 20 years and shows an average success rate of around 80% for treating soft tissue tendon pain. The treatment uses a handheld applicator, similar to an ultrasound device, applied directly to the painful area. During each session, 2,400–3,300 pulses are delivered to stimulate healing. Treatment takes about five minutes, causes minimal discomfort, requires no anaesthesia, and has no downtime. To support the healing process, ice and anti-inflammatory medications should be avoided during the treatment cycle.
Radial Pulse Wave Therapy offers a highly effective alternative to surgery and lengthy physical therapy programs, with success rates equal to or better than many traditional treatments. Unlike surgery, there are no incisions, no risk of infection or scar tissue, and no long recovery period. Treatment requires no anaesthesia, causes minimal discomfort, and allows you to return to normal activities the same day. Sessions are quick, lasting just five minutes once a week, and many people experience noticeable pain relief early in the treatment process. Compared to physical therapy, which often requires multiple weekly visits, long appointment times, and ongoing co-pays, Radial Pulse Wave Therapy is a faster, more convenient, and often more cost-effective option.
Radial Pulse Wave Therapy is well tolerated, with very few reported side effects. In some cases, mild bruising or temporary soreness may occur, similar to how muscles feel after a hard workout. Any discomfort typically lasts only a day or two and is a normal sign that the treatment is stimulating healing. Most people need around five treatments, performed once per week, to achieve the best results and support full recovery.
